Over the past couple of weeks, I've had some extra free time.  I think I did a good job putting that time to use by redoing the Finance section of my website, tweaking and extending its capabilities.  Specifically, I retroactively went back and added all the businesses that I had spent money with.  It's revealed some interesting trends.  First, a graph of my spending:


I think it's interesting that aside from the general picture of my spending increasing over time, I see a few distinctive phases, characterized by periods of a specific type of expense:
  • 2007-2009: FTTA (a Bible school), as seen from the purple area that takes up a significant chunk of spending during those years.
  • 2010-2012: UTD, as seen from the green area during those years.
  • 2013-2018: mortgage, as seen from the dark green area during those years.
I've been very happy with these results.  It's both nice to look at as well as informative.  Now that I'm done with this, I wonder what I should work on next.
